Welcome to my website!

I’m a piano and singing teacher with over forty years’ experience; I copy-edit text and write original songs too. Lucky enough to live in beautiful Suffolk, I print greetings and postcards from photographs taken around and about – you can buy them through this site.
Along with teaching in Wales, Nigeria and here in Suffolk, I’ve art-directed for a classical recording company and worked as an online communications officer for a local authority. I’m a Governor at a local primary school and work as a peripatetic piano and singing teacher at another. I enjoy my garden and walking locally. My two sons (also musicians) and two granddaughters live nearby and keep me on my toes.

Nayland Festival
I project managed the performance and entertainment for Nayland Festival on Nayland’s playing field for two years. On the theme of fun, food and music, families bought delicious locally sourced and cooked food while schools, musicians and bands performed on the full-sized outside stage.
Our schools produced great choral singing, country and ballet dancing, tuneful soloists and impressive gymnasts. Nayland Choir ‘went to the opera’ and excellent blues, rock and funk bands took the crowd late into the evening.

The Village Players
Founded in 1977, the Village Players is a friendly and vibrant dramatic society based in Nayland.  I’ve been privileged to musically direct around thirty productions ranging from themed outdoor performances, staged ‘Songs from the Shows’, complete musicals such as ‘Oliver!’ and original scripts. I’ve also leant a hand with scenic artist jobs on recent productions – very enjoyable.

Tapestry and Nayland Choir
I set up ‘Tapestry’ women’s choir in Nayland in 1992. Tapestry performed a variety of music including Schutz’ Christmas Story, the Christmas Music from Handel’s Messiah, part-songs and madrigals and arrangements of folk and pop songs (including Paul Simon’s ‘Under African Skies’). Tapestry took part in many village events and gave a recital in Long Melford Church.

In 1994, Tapestry evolved into Nayland Choir with the added resources of men’s voices. Held in St James Church, spring and winter concerts included music from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods and English twentieth century composers.

Nayland Choir celebrates its thirtieth anniversary in 2024. The Choir meets on Thursday evenings at 8pm at Nayland Primary School under the expert direction of Emma Bishton. There are no auditions!
